Job summary

Stevens is a strategic advisory and technology firm partnering with executive and technology leaders to turn strategy into working solutions. We’re looking for senior Full Stack Engineers with strong TypeScript skills to join Stevens on an hourly contract basis for upcoming client engagements.

You will work across frontend and backend, building new products, extending platforms, modernizing applications, and integrating enterprise systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum strong professional software engineering experience with ownership of production applications.
• Strong TypeScript and JavaScript development skills across frontend and backend.
• Experience building production interfaces with React or similar frontend frameworks.
• Experience developing backend applications and services with Node.js.
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, accessibility, and browser behavior.
• Experience designing, building, and integrating APIs.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including schema design, SQL, and migrations.
• Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and web vulnerabilities.
• Experience with automated testing, Git, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience deploying and supporting applications in a cloud environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot across frontend, backend, database, and external integrations.
• Ability to work in unfamiliar codebases and learn technologies as an engagement requires.
• Sound engineering judgment and the ability to break ambiguous problems into executable work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to participate in client and team meetings during U.S. business hours.
• Must be located in the United States and legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain full stack applications using TypeScript.
• Develop responsive, accessible interfaces using React or similar modern frontend frameworks.
• Design and implement backend services, APIs, and business logic using Node.js.
• Design data models, write queries, and manage database migrations.
• Integrate third-party services and existing enterprise systems.
• Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure data handling.
• Translate requirements into usable software with designers and client stakeholders.
• Extend and improve existing codebases, including debugging unfamiliar systems.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews.
• Support deployments, observability, and production troubleshooting.
• Make tradeoffs across speed, maintainability, performance, and cost.
• Own features and technical work from design through production deployment.
