Job summary

Stem, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer to build and enhance our clean energy software suite, including Athena®, PowerTrack, and Locus.

You will design scalable web applications across frontend and backend, using React/Angular/Vue on the frontend and Python/Node.js/Java on the backend, with AWS services to handle large energy datasets. Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional full stack development experience delivering complex web applications.
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and at least one frontend framework (React preferred).
• Strong backend experience with Python, Node.js, Java, or C#, and frameworks (Django, Flask, Express, Spring Boot, .NET Core).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Extensive API design/implementation experience (REST, GraphQL).
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Gitin workflows, code reviews, and collaborative development in distributed teams.
• Testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Performance optimization and scalable architecture mindset.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

• Full stack development across web applications from UI components to backend services.
• Build responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern JS frameworks.
• Develop robust REST APIs, microservices, and serverless functions.
• Design and optimize relational and NoSQL databases for large energy data.
• Create and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs; integrate with third-party services.
• Deploy applications on AWS using Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3; ensure security and scalability.
• Implement testing frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Collaborate in an Agile environment with product, design, and data teams.
• Stay current with tech trends and drive DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring).
• Produce technical documentation for code, APIs, and architectures.
