Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA seeks a Full Stack Development Engineer III to design and operate backend services and digital infrastructure powering internal platforms for SSCD. You will own software architecture and deliver scalable, secure cloud-native solutions on AWS GovCloud.

You will implement AI/LLM-powered features, automate workflows, and collaborate with Sales, Strategy, Corporate Development, and Government Affairs teams to enable faster, data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development and production deployment.
• Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (Java preferred) and one dynamically typed language (Python or JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, system design).
• AWS cloud platform experience (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
• Experience developing long-lasting REST/GraphQL APIs and/or applications in a production environment.
• Nuanced understanding of at least one modern database system (RDBMS, NoSQL, etc.).
• CI/CD and containerization (Docker, ECS/EKS).
• Production system ownership including monitoring, alerting, and on-call support.
• Demonstrated habit of using AI-assisted development tools in engineering workflow.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical owner of SSCD internal software platforms—designing system architecture, executing development, managing production reliability.
• Build cloud-native AWS solutions with modern service architecture, managing the full deployment lifecycle on AWS GovCloud (ECS, RDS, S3, IAM).
• Design and operate backend services and APIs using Python, supporting business-critical platforms for corporate development, strategy, and sales workflows.
• Develop infrastructure-as-code and maintain deployment reliability across dev and production environments.
• Architect and implement AI/LLM-powered features—including natural language query interfaces, automated document processing, intelligent data extraction, and workflow automation.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools throughout the engineering workflow to accelerate delivery and enable non-engineer contributors.
• Build integrations with enterprise platforms to create a unified data layer for SSCD operations.
• Implement secure authentication, RBAC, and data handling for ITAR/EAR and CUI environments.
• Conduct code reviews, establish engineering standards, and maintain documentation for long-term maintainability.
