Job summary

NANO Nuclear Energy, Inc. is seeking a Fuel Performance Engineer in Oak Ridge, TN to own and advance analytical foundations for TRISO fuel qualification.

You will develop high-fidelity models, connect analysis with irradiation data, and drive safety limits and licensing documentation for an HTGR fuel system. Qualifications

• Degree in Nuclear Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 7+ years in fuel performance, multiphysics, or mechanistic materials modeling.
• Experience leading safety-significant analyses with traceable results.
• Knowledge of TRISO fuel behavior and related failure mechanisms.
• Experience interpreting irradiation data and PIE data.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-fidelity fuel-behavior models for TRISO particle, ceramic, and pellet scales.
• Conduct thermal and mechanical simulations across steady state to accident scenarios.
• Translate results into inputs for irradiation planning and fuel qualification.
• Lead V&V activities for fuel-performance codes like BISON.
• Document model validation, uncertainty treatment, and licensing inputs.
• Integrate manufacturing, irradiation, PIE data, and safety-test results into qualification models.
• Produce defensible operating envelopes, design limits, and source-term inputs.
