Job summary

Slate is seeking a Frontend Software Development Engineer II to help define and build Slate’s digital customer experience. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving real problems, building high-quality user interfaces, and owning systems end‑to‑end in a startup environment where priorities evolve.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering with frontend focus.
• Strong frontend fundamentals and modern languages (TypeScript/JavaScript/React).
• Experience with production UI systems, performance, accessibility, cross-browser compatibility.
• Experience in frontend architecture and design for maintainability and scalability.
• Experience across full SDLC with coding standards, reviews, source control and testing.
• Familiarity with cloud-backed environments (AWS/Azure) and production behavior.
• Excellent communication, and ability to clarify requirements when ambiguous.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver customer-facing web/mobile experiences that are performant, reliable, and intuitive.
• Lead frontend systems implementation, including component design and UI architecture.
• Write clean, well-structured code; participate in reviews and design discussions.
• Own code quality end-to-end, including testing and production readiness.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and UX to translate customer needs into solutions.
• Balance speed, quality, and maintainability; communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Continuously simplify and improve systems with strong judgment and attention to detail.
• Mentor engineers to strengthen engineering culture.
