Job summary

Virtualitics is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to own the next-generation frontend platform, including the shared app shell, component library, hooks, and a typed API client. You will shape APIs, auth, layout, theming, data fetching, and real-time updates for defense and government projects.

You will work with backend, AI, and DevSecOps teams, delivering fast, accessible, and secure UIs that scale across customer projects and analysts who rely on dashboards and charts.

Qualifications

• S in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years building production web applications with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.
• Experience owning a shared component library, design system, or frontend platform consumed by other teams, including package publishing, versioning, and breaking-change management.
• Strong grasp of modern React: hooks, Suspense, concurrent rendering, server-state libraries (TanStack Query or similar).
• Fluency with the build and tooling layer: Vite, pnpm workspaces, ESLint, TypeScript project configuration, and CI for frontend packages.
• Experience shipping frontend tests that catch real regressions (Vitest or Jest with Testing Library, Playwright or Cypress).
• Experience building data-dense UIs: large tables with server-side pagination, interactive charts, dashboards.
• Working knowledge of browser security: session cookies, CSP, XSS, CSRF, and dependency supply chain.
• Clear written communication. Much of this role is design docs, code review, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the shared frontend packages (app shell, component library, hooks, typed API client) with versioned public APIs.
• Design and build reusable, config-driven components for government applications (tables, charts, dashboards, forms, chat surfaces).
• Set the frontend testing strategy and build it out (component tests, integration tests, end-to-end coverage).
• Own frontend performance and bundle discipline (budgets, code splitting, render profiling).
• Drive design-system direction and consistency across apps with the in-house library.
• Ensure accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508) and security-conscious UI decisions.
• Collaborate with backend for API shape, auth, and real-time event contracts.
• Review frontend code, unblock teams, and extract patterns to shared packages.
• Plan migration of the existing product frontend to the new platform without stopping delivery.
• Mentor engineers and raise frontend standards across the company.
