Job summary

Pennymac is building an AI-powered platform to accelerate mortgage technology and empower engineers and product managers. As Principal Frontend Engineer, you will own the UI that interfaces with AI agents and real-time systems, crafting a scalable, multi-modal workspace beyond traditional dashboards.

You’ll lead the Generative UI, DPX, and collaboration features, partnering with backend teams to define contracts and ensure a seamless developer experience across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, HCI, or related engineering disciplines or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years building complex, data-heavy SPAs with React & TypeScript.
• Experience with Next.js architectures (App Router) and streaming for progressive UI rendering.

Responsibilities

• Architect the Agentic Workspace: design core frontend architecture using React, TypeScript, and Next.js with sub-second performance for heavy data visualization and real-time streams.
• Build the Collaborative Canvas: engineer a real-time, multi-user workspace with CRDTs and WebSocket infrastructure for shared state.
• Master the Generative UI: develop a registry and rendering engine allowing AI agents to dynamically generate interactive UI elements.
• Visualize Intelligence: create visualizations for the Unified Context Library, show AI decision sources and reasoning graphs.
• Partner with Backend: define API contracts (GraphQL, Streaming JSON, SSE) for efficient frontend consumption of complex agent outputs.
• DX Leadership: work with engineers and analysts to translate friction points into elegant UI solutions and establish frontend standards.
