Job description

Radiance Technologies, a rapidly growing employee‑owned company, is searching for talented scientists and engineers with interest in microelectronics security and systems security development to join our Advanced Technology Development Operation (ATDO).

Modern embedded systems face physical security threats across the entire system lifecycle. Addressing these challenges requires individuals capable of out‑of‑the‑box thinking, with an innovative mindset and the ability to work as part of multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.

ATDO is involved in the development and analysis of anti‑tamper/protective technology capabilities and products, advancing the state‑of‑the‑art in areas ranging from secure microelectronics packaging to system‑level security for weapons systems.

ATDO is looking for an FPGA Engineer with the breadth and versatility to work at all design and development stages, from ideation to formal production acceptance testing for electronics subsystems utilizing embedded commercial processors, ASICs, SoCs, GPUs and FGPAs.

Responsibilities
  • Turn up initial custom hardware prototype designs and mature them into deployable solutions.
  • Perform laboratory tests on designs and components.
  • Design, simulate, synthesize, close, and validate IP.
  • Perform embedded debugging and emulation.
  • Work well as part of small, fast‑paced and mission‑driven teams.
Requirements
  • B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field with 10+ years direct experience developing embedded systems (Advanced STEM degrees will substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis).
  • Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
  • Understanding of schematics, ability to perform lab tests on designs and components, experience with custom electronics turn‑up, and troubleshooting and improving new and existing embedded designs.
  • Design, simulation, synthesis, closure and validation of IP.
  • Embedded debugging / emulation.
  • Advanced level C programmer.
  • FPGA: VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Desirable Qualifications / Skills
  • Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field with 15+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Demonstrated expertise as technical lead / architect for embedded projects – conceptualizing solutions to open‑ended problems, deriving implementable requirements, and conveying design intent to a broader team.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – propose new ideas, processes, tools and solutions.
  • Excel at verbal and written communication with customers and team members by providing reports, technical documentation, and guidance as well as participation in the systems engineering process including architecture selection.
  • Microcode.
  • Secure Boot.
  • Real‑time systems experience.
  • Hardware driver creation.
  • Design, simulation, synthesis, and test of IP for ASIC and FPGA projects.
  • Cryptographic algorithm implementation.
  • Development of cryptographic primitives beyond encryption.
  • Advanced knowledge of Roots of Security / Secure Processors.
  • Hardware Security experience – tamper vulnerability research including hardware exploitation, side‑channel attacks, fault‑injection attacks, and nation‑state level reverse engineering threat vectors.
  • Assisting ATDO in capturing additional business through customer interactions, proposal development, and authoring enhanced whitepapers.
  • Authoring of systems development plans.
  • Proficiency and willingness to mentor junior technical personnel.
