Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

As a Senior FPGA Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing FPGA-based solutions for advanced wireless systems and modems. Your expertise in FPGA design, wireless communication theory, and modem technology will be crucial in ensuring the efficient and reliable transmission of data in advanced communication networks.

This position will report to the Sr. Director of Product and System Integration Silicon and will work closely with systems software, hardware, and test teams responsible for delivering the communications payload. This position is based in our Saratoga office.

What you will do:
  • Design and develop FPGA-based systems for wireless communication applications
  • Implement and optimize algorithms for modulation, demodulation, error correction, and signal processing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and translate them into FPGA architectures
  • Conduct performance simulations and analyses to validate FPGA designs
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure the functionality and performance of FPGA designs in real-world conditions
  • Debug and troubleshoot FPGA designs, addressing any issues that arise during development and testing
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in FPGA technology, wireless communication standards, and signal processing techniques
  • Document design processes, test results, and performance metrics to ensure thorough and clear communication within the team
What you bring to this role:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA design and implementation
  • Strong background in wireless communication systems, including modem design
  • Proficiency in hardware description languages (HDL) such as VHDL or Verilog
  • Experience with FPGA development tools and platforms, such as Xilinx, Altera, or similar
  • Deep understanding of communication theory, digital signal processing, and error correction techniques, and experience with MATLAB
  • Proven ability to optimize FPGA designs for performance, power, and area
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
Bonus points for the following:
  • Experience with 3GPP standards, particularly 5GNR
  • Knowledge of software-defined radio (SDR) platforms and tools
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ or Python
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital design and signal integrity analysis

This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $100,000 - $200,000 annually. The total compensation package will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If that’s your experience – then we’ll be immediately wow-ed.

E-Space is not currently able to provide employment sponsorship for candidates who do not hold work authorization for the location of this role.

Why E-Space is right for you:

As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in driving our success.
