Job summary

AppleOne Employment Services is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Analyst to join our FP&A team in Houston, TX. You will develop financial models, automate reporting, and deliver insights to support strategic decisions.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years in FP&A, strong Excel/Power Query and SQL skills, and a proven track record in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L analysis across multiple business units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, financial reporting, or related finance functions.
• Strong understanding of FP&A principles, P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial statement analysis.
• Hands-on Power Query experience is essential, including independently building, modifying, and troubleshooting financial models and automated workflows.
• Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to write queries for financial data analysis.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
• Experience analyzing complex financial operations across multiple business units or locations.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and US GAAP.
• Ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful business insights and communicate findings to leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain financial models, automated reporting processes, and KPI dashboards to support business operations and management.
• Prepare and analyze annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and financial performance across multiple business lines and locations.
• Conduct monthly P&L analysis, including actual-to-forecast variances, trend analysis, gross margin, and operating margin reviews.
• Build, optimize, and troubleshoot financial models using Power Query and advanced Excel.
• Utilize SQL and business intelligence tools to extract, transform, and analyze complex financial datasets.
• Identify opportunities to automate financial reporting, streamline processes, and improve data accuracy.
• Present financial results, business trends, and actionable recommendations to management.
• Coordinate revenue recognition activities, including percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting.
• Support internal and external audits and maintain compliance with SOX requirements and internal controls.
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, and operations teams on strategic initiatives and special projects.
