Job summary

CSPI seeks a Senior Development Officer to lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private and institutional funders. You will manage a foundation portfolio, develop compelling proposals, and partner with leadership to grow the program's funding base.

The role requires 8+ years in foundation fundraising, excellent proposals/communications skills, and strong relationship-building abilities. Hybrid DC-area position with national reach and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience in foundation relations, institutional giving, or grant-focused fundraising.
• Demonstrated success securing six-figure and above foundation grants and building long-term funder relationships.
• Ability to develop and execute institutional fundraising strategy, including revenue goals and prospect pipelines.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to craft proposals and reports for diverse audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills, tactfulness, and discretion in handling confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall foundation fundraising strategy and portfolio goals.
• Oversee execution of fundraising plan, including stewardship and growth of funders.
• Engage leadership in cultivation and stewardship efforts.
• Translate CSPI's science and policy work into funder-ready narratives with program staff.
• Maintain calendars and deadlines for proposals and reports; ensure timely submissions.
