Job summary

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) invites a Senior Development Officer to lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation funders. You will manage a portfolio, develop funder-ready proposals, and partner with the Senior Development Director to grow institutional support.

You will collaborate across leadership, finance, grants, and programs to align strategy with CSPI priorities while ensuring compliance and demanding fundraising excellence.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience in foundation relations, institutional giving, or grant fundraising.
• Demonstrated success securing six-figure and above foundation grants and building long-term funder relationships.
• Develop and execute institutional fundraising strategy with revenue goals, prospect pipelines, and portfolio growth.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; craft proposals, reports, and funder presentations.
• Strong strategic thinking to translate program work into clear cases for support.
• Strong interpersonal skills and discretion; mature and tactful in handling confidential information.
• Ability to engage CSPI’s senior leaders and boards with funders and donors.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall foundation fundraising strategy, set portfolio goals, and coordinate outreach.
• Oversee execution of fundraising plans including stewardship and growth of funders.
• Engage CSPI leadership in cultivation and stewardship efforts.
• Stay abreast of philanthropic trends and apply insights to strengthen CSPI’s program.
• Ensure fundraising aligns with CSPI’s Gift Acceptance Policy.
• Grow revenue by managing a portfolio of foundations and institutional funders.
• Develop annual cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and revenue strategies per relationship.
• Cultivate program officer relationships through meetings and outreach.
• Develop and monitor annual revenue budgets for foundation funders.
• Translate CSPI’s scientific and policy work into funder-ready narratives with program staff.
• Draft and edit foundation proposals, letters, and reports; coordinate submissions.
• Maintain calendars and deadlines for proposals and reports; ensure timely submissions.
• Contribute to donor communications and stewardship activities across the portfolio.
