Job summary

Luxoft in Irving, Texas seeks Forward Deployed Engineer to lead security, testing, release reliability, and legacy modernization for banking applications. You will work hands-on with development teams, defining remediation approaches and implementing changes directly.

The role blends Java/JVM and TypeScript development with DevOps, SRE, and observability. You will upgrade runtimes, containerize apps, strengthen CI/CD, and mentor colleagues while communicating trade-offs to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Hands-on coding across Java/JVM and TypeScript with active production contributions.
• Experience upgrading runtimes, frameworks, and container platforms.
• Strong client-facing communication and leadership in technical engagements.

Responsibilities

• Lead targeted engagements addressing security, testing, release, resilience, and legacy technology challenges with development teams.
• Assess application code, dependencies, runtime environment, test coverage, deployment architecture, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational risks.
• Write, debug, review, and enhance production-quality code and configuration during engagements.
• Define and implement modernization and remediation plans with priorities, dependencies, risks, and measurable outcomes.
• Develop or improve unit, integration, component, contract, and deployment tests using TDD.
• Drive automation testing approaches and tools in CI/CD contexts, including AI-assisted coding where appropriate.
• Source test data and implement secure data masking for lower environments.
• Perform vulnerability triage, root-cause and dependency analyses, remediation prioritization, secure code changes, and regression testing.
• Upgrade Java, JVM, NPM, Spring, libraries, base images, and OS to supported versions.
• Establish dependency-management practices with regular updates using Renovate or equivalents.
• Modernize legacy apps and middleware, containerize with Docker/OpenShift, and enable deployment pipelines.
• Improve source control, PR reviews, and code-review practices.
• Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for safe, repeatable releases.
• Automate database changes using Liquibase or comparable tools.
• Automate environment changes using Ansible or similar tools.
• Implement secure coding patterns, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
• Introduce observability patterns with metrics, dashboards, and health checks.
• Enhance error handling, diagnostics, and production readiness.
• Design resilient deployment architectures, including multi-region or active-active setups.
• Lead technical workshops and communicate decisions and risks effectively to stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews and knowledge transfer.
• Own engagements from assessment to production handover.
