Senior Formulation Scientist (Lynchburg, VA)

We are seeking a Senior Formulation Scientist experienced in developing OTC and cosmetic skincare and haircare products such as liquids, washes, lotions, creams, and gels. Experience with tablets or injectables is not required. The role involves executing product development activities for OTC drug products and cosmetics under minimal supervision, including:

1. Conducting pre-formulation, formulation, and assisting in scale-up of new or improved products.
2. Supporting cGMP manufacturing, labeling, release, and distribution of clinical trial supplies.
3. Organizing data for formulation development and reports to support product launches.
4. Maintaining cGMP compliance in laboratory activities.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

• Create project plans and develop stable formulations of cosmetic and topical pharmaceutical products in accordance with Fleet R&D processes with minimal supervision.
• Assist with process development and scale-up batch manufacturing.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including laboratory notebooks and regulatory documents.
• Generate SOPs and invention memoranda, staying updated on recent developments in OTC and cosmetic product development.
• Provide guidance to junior scientists and collaborate across departments for product development and improvement.
• Participate in meetings with marketing for new product ideas and evaluate competitors’ products.
• Modify experimental methods to meet technical objectives.
• Prepare formulation documents and development reports with supporting data.
• Execute small-scale batches for stability testing, analytical testing, and consumer evaluations.
• Support manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and release of clinical supplies per cGMP guidelines.
• Monitor development activities at contract manufacturers and support large-scale production and product launches.
• Create and train on SOPs, keep supervisors informed, and track work times.
• Perform other tasks as required, including occasional travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline.

- 7+ years’ experience in product development; higher degrees may reduce experience requirements.
