Senior Formulation Scientist (Lynchburg, VA)

We are seeking a Senior Formulation Scientist experienced in developing OTC and cosmetic skin and hair care products such as liquids, washes, lotions, creams, and gels. Experience with tablets or injectables is not required. The role involves executing product development activities for OTC drugs and cosmetics, including:

• Conducting pre-formulation, formulation, and assisting in scale-up of new or improved products
• Supporting cGMP manufacturing, labeling, release, and distribution of clinical trial supplies
• Organizing data for formulation development and product launch reports
• Maintaining cGMP compliance in laboratory activities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Responsibilities include:

• Creating project plans and developing stable formulations for cosmetic and topical pharmaceutical products with minimal supervision
• Assisting with process development and scale-up batch manufacturing
• Maintaining accurate documentation of laboratory work and regulatory records
• Generating SOPs and invention memoranda
• Providing guidance to junior scientists and collaborating across departments
• Participating in meetings with marketing and evaluating competitor products
• Adapting experimental methods to meet technical objectives
• Developing formulation documents and reports
• Executing small-scale batch manufacturing and supporting stability testing
• Managing clinical supply manufacturing in accordance with cGMP guidelines
• Monitoring formulation activities at contract manufacturers
• Supporting large-scale production for new product launches
• Creating and training on departmental SOPs
• Keeping supervisors informed and tracking work times

Other tasks and occasional travel may be required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
• 7+ years’ experience in product development (higher degrees may reduce experience requirements)
