Job summary

The Florida Forest Service, part of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, seeks a Senior Forester to lead Baker County forestry programs and oversee timber, ecological, and community outreach efforts.

Responsibilities include technical assistance to private landowners, wildfire response support, and collaboration on cost-share programs, urban forestry initiatives, and Tree City USA designations. Occasional travel and a valid driver license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related field with two years of forestry or natural resource experience.
• Master’s degree in Forestry or related field with one year of forestry or natural resource experience.
• Foreign degrees must be SAF-accredited or prove coursework in Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.

Responsibilities

• Provide forest management technical assistance to private landowners for timber revenue and ecological management.
• Advise on timber marking, volume estimation, and sale of forest products.
• Support urban and community forestry grants, Tree City USA designations, and related forest factors.
• Respond to homeowners’ requests for shade tree and ornamental tree disease analysis and prevention methods.
• Provide wildfire and emergency response support and assist in hazard mitigation and prescribed fire planning.
