Job summary

OpenAI seeks a senior Machine Learning Data Scientist to lead forecasting initiatives within Strategic Finance Data Science. You’ll build and scale production-grade forecasting systems predicting DAU/WAU, revenue, LTV, and profitability.

This highly cross-functional role requires technical excellence, product intuition, and business acumen, collaborating with product, research, and finance leaders. Hybrid SF-based role with relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field (Statistics, CS, Economics, OR).
• 7+ years of applied data science with forecasting focus.
• Expertise in time-series forecasting and model trade-offs.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

• Build statistical and ML models for forecasting across product, finance, infra, and GTM.
• Own end-to-end modeling lifecycle: scoping, features, prototyping, deployment, monitoring, explainability.
• Develop scalable, interpretable forecasts for key metrics like DAU/WAU, revenue, LTV, compute usage.
• Contribute to self-service forecasting tools and internal platforms.
• Research and evaluate emerging forecasting tools and techniques.
• Drive strategic insights by translating outputs into business recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed forecasts in planning and decision-making.
