Senior Food Safety Manager

FLSA Status: Salary Exempt

Reports To: Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Work Schedule: Varies

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Senior Food Safety Manager identifies and efficiently solves food-safety hazards in challenging food processing environments. Job duties include:

  • Conduct risk assessments and facilitate special situation investigations.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and develop action plans as it pertains to microbiological or food safety issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies and programs to mitigate food safety risks.
  • Provide technical assistance and support in handling food safety issues, distributing best practices, and enabling compliance to customer and regulatory compliance.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate food safety efforts in support of company’s growth.
  • Support management teams in meeting goals and objectives surrounding food safety.
  • Meet overall company objectives, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and set goals.
  • Protect the food safety of our customers’ products by facilitating the development and implementation of food safety, microbiological, and sanitation training.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally while tailoring communication style and content to the audience.
  • Effectively present to internal and external customers.
  • Develop and review Key Performance Indicators (“KPI”) to drive food safety performance.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

YOUR MUST HAVES:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science/food safety or other related scientific field or equivalent job experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience in food safety, sanitation, or quality assurance.
  • USDA/FDA background, knowledge of microbes linked to food production and working knowledge of GFSI schemes and regulatory regulations to include rules required to implement HACCP and FSMA.
  • Technical skills including the ability to learn and work with computers and technology, particularly Microsoft Office programs.

WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:

  • Strong understanding of microbiology, sanitary design, and advanced cleaning methods to include wet/dry cleaning applications.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams to succeed.
  • Attributes such as: decision making, conflict resolution ability, self-motivation, honesty, initiative, and customer focus.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.

OUR ENVIRONMENT:

This position is based in your home office, when not travelling to the corporate headquarters, customer, or plant locations which may require the use of PPE including safety glasses, hardhat, ear protection, and/or other protective equipment/clothing. Walking, standing, sitting, and computer work are all required in this environment. Sitting for extended periods of time when travelling (mostly driving) is also required.
