Job summary

CGS Federal in Chantilly, VA, seeks a Senior FOIA Analyst to process FOIA requests, draft correspondence, and support negotiations for a large federal agency. The role emphasizes independent work, attention to exemptions, and accurate data entry in the FOIA tracking system.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of FOIA experience, knowledge of exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6), and familiarity with FOIA tools such as FOIA EXPRESS and SecureRelease. A current security clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience processing FOIA requests.
• Knowledge of FOIA exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
• Experience redacting records with trade secrets or confidential information.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
• Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA folders.
• Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
• Draft response letters and FOIA correspondence.
• Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors.
• Serve as a liaison with requesters and other agencies as needed.
• Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicates.
• Review program records for responsiveness and release determinations.
• Ensure released materials do not contain information exempted under applicable exemptions.
