Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Sr Staff Test Pilot for Flight Test Operations based in Baltimore, MD to support flight testing across six aircraft and numerous sensor development programs. You will join a team flying approximately 1,000 hours annually, contributing to R&D flight tests and sensor integration efforts.

The role requires graduate TPS credentials, extensive fixed-wing flight time, and active security clearances.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 years professional/military experience; Master’s degree and 12 years professional/military experience; PhD and 10 years professional/military experience.
  • Graduate from an internationally recognized Test Pilot School long course (USNTPS, USAFTPS, NTPS, ETPS, EPNER).
  • Current FAA Class II medical certificate or have the ability to obtain one prior to start.
  • Minimum 1000 hours fixed wing Aircraft Commander/Pilot in Command/Primary flight time in turbojet, turbofan or turboprop aircraft.
  • FAA Commercial Multi-Engine Land (AMEL) pilot certificate without a centerline thrust restriction or must have the ability to obtain one prior to start.
  • U.S. Citizenship and an interim U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance is required to start; must also obtain/maintain US Secret and SAP clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Be a critical member of a team that flies 1,000 flight hours per year conducting flight test on 6 aircraft for 40+ sensor development programs supporting the warfighter.
  • Participate in large force exercises to showcase technology in operationally relevant environments.
  • Maintain currency and proficiency in multiple aircraft types (Bombardier CRJ-700, De Havilland Dash 8, Learjet 60XR, Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatros).
  • Perform research and development flight test in support sensor development for varied applications and maturity states.
  • Plan and execute test flights to verify analysis in support of aircraft modifications.
  • Plan and execute flight operations in support of sensor development throughout the National Airspace System to include Special Use Airspace and cooperation with military assets.
  • Provide technical support and liaison with program teams in support of sensor integration.
  • Other duties as assigned.
