Job description

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Flight Planning and Displays Systems Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the System Development Group and will report to the System Design Manager.

As part of an experienced multi-disciplinary team, you will help solve the key technical and certification challenges to deploying certified Unmanned Aircraft. Your professional experience in flight planning and displays system design, development and safety engineering will further strengthen the company's ability to meet the rigorous expectations of stakeholders and certification authorities. You will collaborate with members from other groups within Reliable Robotics to develop new and novel systems, processes and tools necessary for unmanned aircraft operations and help to grow the company's overall system engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

In your role as Senior Systems Engineer (Flight Planning and Displays Systems), you will be involved in all system development aspects of our prototypes and certifiable safety critical flight systems. This will involve the following activities:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in the area of Flight Planning, Displays Systems and Flight Deck Alerting.

  • You will be responsible for leading the development of the Flight Planning and Display System functional design, from architecture development and requirements capture to system validation and verification.

  • Support cross-functional RCCAs, trade studies, and integral process development.

  • Perform trade studies to assess performance, complexity, risk, and cost of competing technical solutions.

  • Define and support the execution of system activities according to ARP4754 guidance.

Basic Success Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science or Engineering in Electrical, Aerospace, or related discipline, or equivalent experience at a minimum.

  • Deep system development experience from specifying, designing, integrating and testing multiple complex safety critical avionics certification programs.

  • Deep technical experience from concept to implementation across multiple program lifecycles in Flight Planning and Displays systems.

Preferred Criteria

  • Advanced Degree of Science or Engineering in Electrical, Aerospace, or related discipline

  • Proven experience leading engagement with airworthiness authorities for new/novel applications, technologies, or means of compliance.

  • Experience leading multiple different inter-disciplinary teams through complex architectural trade studies or root cause investigations.

We are developing and building high-integrity safety-critical systems for automated flight, and your role is critical to what we do at Reliable Robotics. With the support of the entire team, you will be instrumental in developing the systems designs and lifecycle data that demonstrates our system is safe and error free.

This role can be remote, or located at our facility in Mountain View, California, Seattle, Washington, or San Diego, California.

Must be willing to travel 20% of the time.

This position requires access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls. An offer of employment will be contingent upon the applicant’s capacity to perform in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
