Job summary

Amca is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own flight hardware development from concept through qualification. You will design, analyze and prototype fluid and structural systems, and manage the linkage between customer requirements and the build/test teams.

Responsibilities include leading design and prototyping, creating drawings and specs, driving PDR/CDR, defining qualification strategies, mentoring juniors, and coordinating with vendors and customers to ensure producibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, or materials engineering, or engineering physics.
• 5+ years of mechanical or fluids design, analysis, and build experience.
• Ownership of at least one component or subsystem from concept through qualification or flight.
• Track record of shipping hardware, not just designing it.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and prototyping of mechanical hardware across a subsystem.
• Develop flow control devices (valves, regulators, solenoids) and mechanisms (actuators, switches, pistons).
• Generate drawings, component specifications, analysis, and risk assessments.
• Drive trade studies and architecture decisions that cross team boundaries.
• Lead PDR and CDR as the responsible engineer; own the technical narrative end-to-end.
• Set qualification strategy and drive testing campaigns.
• Root cause investigations with corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Define company design and testing standards as a senior engineer.
• Mentor junior design engineers and unblock their work.
• Act as technical authority with customers, manufacturers, and review boards.
• Prototype new components in-house and stay hands-on.
• Own vendor relationships through NPI, audits, and supplier qualification.
• Coordinate with test and build teams for manufacturability.
• Represent Amca in technical reviews and audits.
