Job summary

The City of Fayetteville, North Carolina is seeking a skilled Equipment Mechanic to perform diesel, gasoline, and alternative-fuel repairs on municipal fleets. You will diagnose mechanical issues, perform preventive maintenance, and lead junior staff in daily shop operations.

Responsibilities include heavy equipment repairs, electrical system work, and ensuring roadworthy condition of city vehicles. A valid NC CDL and safety inspector license are preferred. Competitive benefits provided.

Qualifications

• Three years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of diesel, gasoline and alternative fuel powered equipment.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assist lower level mechanics and maintenance workers; provide technical lead to staff.
• Inspect and diagnose mechanical problems; analyze failures and determine causes; perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs.
• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, drive axles, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Fabricate and assemble parts for automotive and heavy equipment; repair body panels and chassis parts.
• Repair and test equipment safety systems and related devices on vehicles and machinery.
