The City of Fayetteville is seeking a Senior Bus Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on the Transit Fleet, and to provide technical assistance to lower level mechanics. You will manage diagnostics for gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels, and handle complex repairs across engines, electrical, and hydraulics.
Qualifications include a NC Class B CDL with passenger and airbrake endorsements, a State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license, and preferred ASE certifications.

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Senior Bus Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment in the Transit Fleet; to perform recordkeeping activities on repairs performed; to provide technical assistance to lower level mechanics; and to perform the most complex and difficult repairs in the Transit Department.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of diesel, gasoline and alternative fuel powered equipment.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, propane, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability; possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety Inspector’s license.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for Automotive, Heavy Truck or Bus certification.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, physical abilities test, background check and driving history check.
