Qualifications

Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

The role involves repairing and maintaining equipment, vehicles, and related systems, including diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling construction equipment, trucks, fire apparatus, and more. Responsibilities also include welding, fabricating parts, operating equipment, performing tests and inspections, preventative maintenance, data entry, and responding to emergency calls.

Incumbents working on fire equipment perform specialized diagnostics and repairs, including electric troubleshooting and on-call support.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles and equipment.
  • Overhauling engines, rebuilding transmissions, troubleshooting electrical/hydraulic systems.
  • Performing diagnostic troubleshooting using computer diagnostics.
  • Coordinating with vendors and agencies for service schedules and compliance.
  • Customer service, responding to inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
  • Inventory management, including parts tracking and ordering.
  • Documenting maintenance operations and maintaining records.
  • Performing skilled mechanical maintenance on diverse vehicles and systems.
  • Welding, fabricating, and utilizing diagnostic software.
  • Ensuring safety and operational compliance.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Associate degree in auto mechanics/repair, diesel tech, or related field with 3 years of experience, OR high school diploma with 7 years of experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory record.
  • North Carolina Inspection/Emissions License or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • EPA 609 Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • Forklift Operator's License or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  • This position is critical to emergency operations and requires reporting to work during emergencies.

Preferred Skills:

  • ASE certification, NC State Inspectors License, welding experience, OEM diagnostic skills, and 3+ years heavy-duty truck or automotive experience.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in activities beyond vehicle maintenance, including safety training.
