Our Fleet Management Department is nationally recognized for innovative fleet management practices. We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our team. If innovation and sustainability are important to you, bring your skills and talents to Durham!

Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

This position involves repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and related systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining construction equipment, trucks, fire apparatus, and other machinery. Tasks include mechanical, diesel, and hydraulic repairs; engine overhauls; transmission rebuilds; welding; fabricating parts; operating equipment; performing tests and inspections; and entering data into maintenance systems. Field and emergency support is also required.

Specific duties include:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various equipment and vehicles, including police and fire apparatus.
  • Overhauling engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Performing diagnostic troubleshooting with computer diagnostics and fabricating parts as needed.
  • Coordinating with vendors and agencies for service schedules and compliance.
  • Responding to customer inquiries and emergency calls, troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Managing inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining records and reports.
  • Performing skilled maintenance on diverse vehicles and systems, including welding and using diagnostic software.
  • Ensuring safety and operational compliance, documenting operations, and performing other related duties.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate degree in auto mechanics/repair or related field with 3 years of experience, or high school diploma with 7 years of experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License, NC Inspection/Emissions License, EPA 609 Certification, and Forklift License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Critical position requiring readiness to work during emergencies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • ASE certification, NC State Inspectors License, welding experience, diagnostic equipment proficiency, and 3 years of heavy-duty truck or automotive experience.
  • Willingness to learn, participate in various maintenance activities, and complete safety training.
