Job summary

Topaz HR is seeking an experienced Fleet & Equipment Manager to lead a commercial vehicle fleet across multiple distribution locations. You will oversee maintenance, driver performance, DOT compliance, and vendor relationships to maintain a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient operation.

The role requires hands-on diesel expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to analyze fleet expenses while driving improvements in safety and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of fleet, transportation, or fleet maintenance management experience.
• Strong diesel expertise with hands-on truck/equipment knowledge.
• Proven experience managing drivers and safety accountability.
• Knowledge of Class 7/8 trucks, diesel systems, brakes, tires and related equipment.
• Experience analyzing fleet expenses and managing vendors; evaluating rental/lease/purchase options.
• Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA compliance, inspections, and maintenance documentation.
• Experience with Moffett/piggyback or similar material-handling equipment is a plus.
• CDL-A, ASE, NAFA or related certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and condition of trucks, tractors, trailers, forklifts, and warehouse equipment.
• Lead and manage drivers with a focus on safety, performance, and customer service.
• Develop preventive maintenance and inspection programs; coordinate repairs and vendors.
• Maintain fleet cleanliness and professional appearance across locations.
• Evaluate rental, lease, and ownership options; plan replacements and repairs.
• Analyze fleet costs to identify efficiency opportunities and cost controls.
• Ensure DOT/FMCSA compliance and proper maintenance records.
