Job summary

Molecular Devices, a Danaher operating company, seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer to design, develop, verify, and maintain embedded firmware for advanced scientific imaging and automation instruments in San Jose, CA. You will work on real-time control, imaging hardware, and multi-board integration on STM32-based controllers in a collaborative team.

The role requires 5+ years of embedded firmware experience, strong C/C++, and RTOS expertise, with on-site work and up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical discipline.
5+ years of professional embedded firmware development experience.
Expert in embedded C with strong modern C++ for resource-constrained MCUs.
Hands-on RTOS experience and non-RTOS systems development.
Experience with UART, I2C, SPI, Ethernet/TCP and related interfaces.
Ability to read schematics/datasheets and diagnose hardware-firmware interactions.
Proven code reviews, automated testing, and root-cause analysis experience.
Willing to travel up to 10% and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Design and deliver production embedded firmware in C and C++ for STM32 controllers.
Lead hardware bring-up and cross-disciplinary subsystem integration.
Develop RTOS-based software and host-device communications.
Implement device update, bootloaders, and reliable messaging protocols.
Build tests, support CI workflows, and contribute to design reviews.
