Job summary

Orion Sleep in San Francisco is seeking an experienced embedded systems engineer to design, implement, and bring up firmware for our edge devices. You will own firmware architecture, testing, and maintenance as we scale toward mass production.

The role requires 3+ years of firmware experience, C/C++, RTOS, BLE and WiFi, plus hands-on hardware interfaces. You will collaborate across hardware, mobile, and backend teams to deliver reliable, upgradeable devices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience developing firmware for embedded systems.
• Mastery of C/C++ and embedded development tools.
• Familiarity with RTOS and MCU architectures.
• Experience with BLE, WiFi, and hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
• Experience debugging embedded platforms under compute/memory constraints.
• Experience with OTA update mechanisms and production releases.
• Bonus: embedded systems security.
• Bonus: startup experience, taking products from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement the firmware for hardware products.
• Own the device bring-up process and debug alongside hardware vendors.
• Establish observability and maintainability pipelines for firmware testing, deployment, and fleet management.
• Establish coding standards, testing frameworks, and debugging processes.
• Collaborate with hardware vendors, mobile engineers, and backend engineers for seamless product integration.
• Support new board prototyping and bring-up.
