ZealHire Inc. is seeking a hands-on Sr. Firmware Engineer/Consultant to own the cellular stack end to end—from modem integration to certification—onsite in Oak Brook, IL.

You will collaborate with hardware, firmware, cloud and compliance teams to move products from prototype through FCC/PTCRB/GCF certification and into production.

Requires 8+ years in embedded C/C++, LTE-M/NB-IoT/Cat-1, RTOS, lab RF tools and a related degree; experience with Nordic nRF91 and similar modems is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of embedded firmware development in C/C++ on 32-bit MCUs (ARM Cortex-M)
• 4+ years hands-on with cellular IoT (LTE-M/NB-IoT/Cat-1) in production
• Deep knowledge of 3GPP LTE concepts (attach/registration, bands, PSM/eDRX)
• Experience taking cellular products through PTCRB/GCF and US carrier certification
• FCC/ISED regulatory requirements for radiators
• RTOS experience (FreeRTOS/Zephyr/ThreadX)
• Onsite work in Oak Brook, IL
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent

Responsabilités

• Design, develop and debug embedded C/C++ firmware integrating LTE-M/NB-IoT/Cat-1 modules
• Integrate modems via AT commands or vendor SDKs
• Implement network attach, PDP context, PSM/eDRX, reconnect and fallback logic
• Build secure cloud connectivity with TLS/DTLS, MQTT/CoAP, device provisioning
• Implement and validate firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates
• Support SIM/eSIM/eUICC and carrier profile management
• RF bring-up and performance testing; antenna tuning with hardware team
• Lead regulatory and carrier certification efforts (FCC/ISED/PTCRB/GCF)
• Collaborate with product, cloud, QA and compliance; document architecture and tests
