Job summary

TechClub Inc. is seeking a self-directed Firmware Engineer (C++) to contribute to embedded software development for MR platforms.

You will own firmware features end-to-end, learn existing code and hardware interfaces, and deliver reliable software with strong C++ foundations on-site in Waukesha. The role requires 5+ years in embedded firmware, expertise in modern C++, and experience with Linux, Git, and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded or firmware software.
• Strong C++ programming skills including object-oriented design, memory management, concurrency, debugging, and maintainable production code.
• Hands-on experience with embedded software that interacts with hardware and real-time systems.
• Proven ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and codebases independently, and deliver results with minimal guidance.
• Experience with debugging tools and system logs in embedded contexts.
• Experience with Linux-based development environments, Git, and build or container-based workflows.
• Experience with continuous integration and automated testing, and disciplined software review practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and collaboration across functions.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned firmware features from requirements through design, implementation, integration, verification, and defect resolution.
• Independently learn existing code, hardware interfaces, development tools, and system behavior.
• Develop maintainable embedded software in modern C++ with robust interfaces and error handling.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, FPGA, software, and architecture teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
• Use debuggers, emulators, analyzers, logs to isolate complex software/hardware problems.
• Create unit and integration tests, contribute to automated testing, and support CI to improve quality.
• Participate in design and code reviews and incorporate feedback promptly.
• Plan work via user stories and communicate status, risks, and blockers clearly.
• Produce clear technical documentation for design traceability, testing, and maintenance.
• Work with globally distributed teams to improve MR platform designs.
