Job summary

Quest Global is seeking an experienced embedded firmware engineer for an on-site role in Waukesha, WI. You will own firmware features from requirements through verification, collaborating with systems, hardware, FPGA, and software teams.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in embedded/firmware development, strong C++ skills, and hands-on experience with hardware interfaces, real-time systems, Linux, Git, and CI/testing practices. This is an on-site, full-time position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional embedded/firmware software development.
• Strong C++ programming skills, including OO design and memory management.
• Experience with Linux-based development environments and Git.
• Hands-on experience with hardware interfaces and real-time systems.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar codebases and deliver with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Own firmware features from requirements through design, implementation, integration, verification, and defect resolution.
• Learn existing code, hardware interfaces, and tools; identify resources and ask focused questions.
• Develop maintainable embedded software in modern C++ with sound OO design and proper error handling.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
• Use debuggers, emulators, analyzers, and logs to isolate software/hardware problems.
• Create unit/integration tests and support CI to improve quality and coverage.
• Participate in design/code reviews and incorporate feedback promptly.
• Plan and track work via user stories; communicate risks and blockers early.
• Document design traces and testing for long-term maintenance.
• Work with globally distributed teams to improve design and architecture.
