Job summary

Chesapeake Fire Protection is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to head the sprinkler design team in Ashburn, VA. You will guide design projects, ensure NFPA and code compliance, and collaborate with PMs and field crews to deliver safe, compliant systems.

You will mentor designers, develop standards, and participate in client meetings as part of a growing protection-design department within the Chesapeake Fire Protection family.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of fire sprinkler design experience.
• 3+ years of design management or supervisory experience.
• NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SprinkCAD, HydroCAD and related software.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of fire sprinkler designers.
• Oversee designs for commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects.
• Ensure designs meet NFPA standards, local codes, and project specifications.
• Review and approve drawings, hydraulic calculations, and submittals.
• Coordinate design needs with Project Managers and field teams.
• Develop and maintain department standards, templates, and workflows.
• Support permitting and respond to AHJ questions.
• Assist with resource allocation, project planning, and departmental budgeting.
• Lead design reviews and technical problem-solving.
