Job summary

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) seeks a full-time Associate Fire Protection Inspector Level II for the Bureau of Fire Prevention, Suppression Unit. Reporting to a Deputy Chief Inspector, the role supervises and trains lower-level Inspectors, reviews field work, and conducts audits to ensure compliance across the unit.

Responsibilities include witnessing tests, field evaluations, and acting as Deputy Chief Inspector when needed.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following: the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables; the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials; the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or housed to detect potential fire and explosion hazards; the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or Education and/or experience equivalent to the first item.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and train all lower-level Inspectors within their command.
• Review work performed by field Inspectors and witness suppression testing when a subordinate is on leave.
• Conduct field performance evaluations and audits of inspections within the Suppression Unit.
• Serve as Acting Deputy Chief Inspector during the Deputy Chief Inspector's absence and enforce attendance and conduct rules.
• Provide guidance to senior Fire Prevention leadership and coordinate with other City agencies on fire and life safety matters.
