Job summary

Amentum seeks a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to lead the design, evaluation, and implementation of life safety systems at the Oak Ridge, TN site. You will apply advanced fire science, performance-based design, and code analysis to complex facilities while advising clients and internal teams on risk mitigation.

In this role, you will serve as a technical leader, mentor, and trusted advisor, helping ensure successful project delivery and the professional development of fire protection

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10 years of progressively responsible experience in fire protection engineering or related field.
• Expertise in fire protection systems, fire hazards analysis, and applicable codes.
• Experience leading complex technical assignments and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, and client engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently plan and execute complex fire protection engineering assignments within primary technical areas.
• Lead small teams or work packages within larger projects and client-support efforts.
• Develop, review, and approve technical deliverables such as calculations, layouts, and design basis documents.
• Resolve routine and complex issues and escalate when needed to leadership or clients.
• Lead technical interfaces with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams; document decisions and resolutions.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and specialists.
• Maintain technical expertise through project work and industry standards.
