Job summary

DLR Group, a design firm focused on elevating the human experience through thoughtful design, seeks a Senior Fire Protection Engineer in Overland Park, KS. You will lead fire protection design across sectors and collaborate with the mechanical team to develop drawings and calculations.

You will guide teams, manage scopes, budgets, and schedules, review NFPA/IBC/IFC compliance, coordinate with AHJs, and support proposals from schematic through construction administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering.
• 7+ years of experience designing and analyzing fire protection systems.
• Active Fire Protection PE licensure required.
• Experience with new construction and renovations/retrofits.
• Strong knowledge of IBC/IFC and NFPA codes and standards.
• Excellent communication across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead fire protection engineering teams across multiple regions with technical leadership and mentorship.
• Manage planning, execution, budgets, milestones, and quality for fire protection design firmwide.
• Develop scopes of work, budgets, proposals, and design strategies across projects and sectors.
• Prepare and review fire and life safety analyses and code compliance reviews (IBC/IFC/NFPA).
• Oversee production and QA of construction documents, reports, specs, and reviews.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors and AHJs for permitting and approvals.
• Lead construction administration activities including submittals, site observations, and meetings.
• Support business development through client relationships and proposals.
