Job summary

InterMed, P.A., the largest physician-owned primary care practice in Maine, seeks a Financial Controller to design and oversee internal controls, budgets, and all financial reporting under the CFO.

You will lead accounting operations, annual audits, treasury, payroll, and FP&A, partnering with executives to drive financial strategy and cost optimization. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in accounting, CPA preferred, strong analytics, and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• CPA preferred.
• Three to five years of direct people management experience within accounting/finance.
• Healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience using data analytics to inform decision making is required.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting; knowledge of accounting software applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization.
• Excellent time management, organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to make recommendations to resolve problems using established standards and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Ability to handle confidential information while upholding InterMed’s values.

Responsibilities

• Owns and oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including calendars, task assignments, and deadlines.
• Directs journal entries, accruals, estimates, reserves, and complex transactions; reviews reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Manages internal and external financial reporting and leads the annual audit with external auditors.
• Oversees annual operating and capital budgeting and FP&A processes.
• Oversees treasury operations, cash positioning, and accounts payable; supports financing arrangements.
• Ensures payroll accounting, liabilities, taxes, and schedules are accurate and timely.
• Supervises finance staff and promotes strong internal control culture.
• Collaborates across Finance, Operations, and Practice Leadership on special projects and revenue-cycle initiatives.
• Provides financial insight and analysis to support strategic decisions and investments.
• Delivers board-ready financial presentations and variance analyses; supports Board and committee meetings.
