Job summary

RSM is seeking a Senior Accountant to support real estate clients in transaction processing, reconciliations, and month-end close. The role includes preparing financial statements, variance analysis, and budgeting, while advising on improvements across multi-client environments.

You will work with Yardi or MRI, coach client-services teams, and collaborate with property managers to resolve issues and explain variances. Strong Excel and cloud-based systems experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience performing property-level accounting and finance functions.
• Experience with property managers to resolve accounting issues and explain variances.
• Experience with Real Estate tech systems such as Yardi or MRI.
• CPA or pursuing CPA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform transaction processing and account reconciliations for Real Estate clients.
• Serve as key contact for Purchase to Pay, Order to Cash, and Month End Close cycles.
• Review monthly journal entries for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued expenses, payroll, and/or inventory transactions.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including variance analysis and budgeting vs actual.
• Provide actionable insights and decision support to client management.
• Identify opportunities to enhance clients’ monthly operations and document repeatable methodologies.

Job description

• Perform transaction processing and account reconciliations
• Serve as key point of contact for clients’ Purchase to Pay, Order to Cash, and Month End Close cycles
• Work in client technology environments and within the FaaS technology stack
• Lead, manage, and coach client services representatives and associates
• Review monthly journal entries for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued expenses, payroll, and/or inventory transactions
• Understand and approve bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including month-over-month variance analysis and budget-versus-actual analysis
• Analyze and interpret financial information for client management and provide actionable insight and decision support
• Identify opportunities to enhance clients’ monthly operations and suggest process improvements
• Define and document repeatable methodologies with tools and templates for future projects
• Identify systems, modules, integrations, and add-on processes that improve month-end close efficiency
• Work to deadlines across month-end close, financial reporting, year-end audit support, budgeting, and forecasting activities
• Maintain extensive contact with clients and other client contacts, including tax and professional service providers

Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance is required
• Experience performing property-level accounting and finance functions required
• Experience working with property managers to resolve accounting issues, address concerns, and explain variances required
• Experience in Real Estate technology systems such as Yardi or MRI is required
• Professional presentation and great communication skills
• Superior ability to prioritize and focus in a dynamic, multi-client environment
• Familiarity and comfort level working with cloud-based technology systems
• Willingness to learn emerging technology solutions such as AI platforms and automation solutions
• Solid Excel skills, including creating tables, using formulas, and pivot tables
• Ability to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
• Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to adapt to change effectively
• Experience with automated accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, Blackline, FloQast, or Basis
• Experience in a public accounting firm, consulting firm, or other professional services environment preferred but not required
• Pursuing CPA or a CPA preferred but not required
• RSM does not intend to hire entry level candidates who will require sponsorship now or in the future
