TITLE OF POSITION:

Title: Senior Financial Analyst

Position Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Position

Department: Central Office/Finance & Operations

LOCATION: Nauset Public Schools Central Administration Office, Orleans, MA

DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT OF POSITION: The Senior Financial Analyst performs advanced financial analysis, budgeting, grant management, accounting, and reporting functions for the Nauset Regional School District and its member towns. This position plays a key role in supporting strategic financial planning, monitoring grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations, and providing high-level administrative and operational support to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Assist with financial reporting, analysis, forecasting, and account reconciliations as assigned; support the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly financial reports, and monthly financial reporting to the various school committees. Prepare detailed financial reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence using Excel and school finance software.
  • Budgeting & Requisitions: Support annual budget development across departments. Review and approve requisitions to ensure proper use of funds and accurate account coding. Create new revenue and expenditure accounts following the district's chart of accounts.
  • General Ledger & Accounting Operations: Post journal, ledger, and budget journal entries. Provide oversight and support for accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions as needed to maintain smooth business office operations.
  • Grant Management & Proposal Support: Monitor grant expenditures, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grant guidelines, and assist with developing budgets for new grant proposals. Assist with grant reimbursement requests and fund drawdowns.
  • Audit Support: Support annual financial audits and End-of-Year Financial Report (EOYR) processes through the thorough preparation and collection of required documentation.
  • Executive & Confidential Support: Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations with confidential financial, operational, and administrative matters.
  • Business Office Operations: Maintain accurate financial records and provide support to business office personnel during periods of high workload or staff absences.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff, department heads, vendors, municipal officials, and members of the public.
  • Data Management: Compile, manipulate, and analyze complex financial data with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • General Duties: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. Bachelor's Degree or applicable certifications preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, or municipal/public school finance. Prior Massachusetts public school or municipal finance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, database management, and modern financial/ERP software systems.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exemplary oral and written communication skills with a proven track record of maintaining confidentiality and building positive professional relationships.
