Job summary

Department of Defense, Veterans' and Emergency Management in Augusta, Maine seeks a senior fiscal professional to serve as a key financial advisor to department leadership. You will lead budgeting, financial analysis, GAAP compliance, and government accounting across programs, ensuring accurate reporting and strong internal controls.

The role requires excellent communication, ability to work with senior leaders and staff across bureaus, and a track record in budget development, expenditures

Qualifications

• Advanced education, training, and/or experience in cost/benefit and financial analysis.
• Demonstrated competency in building relationships with leaders, staff, and external partners.
• Master's degree in MBA/Finance/Accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise department leadership on budgets, trends, funding constraints and fiscal impacts.
• Apply GAAP, GAS, and federal requirements to accounting and reporting activities.
• Lead budget development, revisions, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Provide guidance on complex accounting, budgeting, and grants across DVEM.
• Coordinate audits and corrective actions and strengthen internal controls.
