Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an energetic Survey Crew Chief in Indianapolis, IN to perform advanced field surveys and lead junior crew members. The role involves data collection from ground and subsurface, instrument maintenance, and collaboration with project teams to ensure accuracy and safety.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of field surveying, at least 2 years as Crew Chief, proficiency with total stations, data collectors, and 3D scanners, and a willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of field survey experience and at least 2+ years as Crew Chief.
• Proficient with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations and leveling.
• Experience with civil surveying and construction staking.
• Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
• Self-starter with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in inclement weather.
• Willingness to travel.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for job communications and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform advanced field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
• Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
• Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
• Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with minimal assistance from office support team.
• Prepare or receive from the PM, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
• Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
• Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
• Mentor and train junior field staff to facilitate career advancement.
