Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. in Cary, North Carolina seeks a Land Survey Crew Chief to lead field surveys outdoors in all weather conditions.

You will oversee equipment, prepare field notes, perform measurements and calculations, and ensure safety and client relations on site. Ideal candidates have extensive crew leadership experience, proficiency with Trimble software and Robotic Total Station, and strong civil-engineering survey knowledge.

Qualifications

• Construction staking and data collection systems experience required.
• Ability to perform basic GPS operations.
• Proficient with Robotic Total Station.
• Be familiar with basic computer applications.
• Possess good interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication skills and provide a positive client/public relationship in the field.
• Surveying license or LSIT.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of survey technology and basic civil engineering concepts.
• Experience as Crew Leader/Party Chief (5+ years).
• Experience with Trimble or similar software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation and maintenance of survey equipment on site.
• Prepare field sketches/drawings and high-quality field notes.
• Assemble instruments and measuring devices for survey work; operate level, transit, theodolite, total stations.
• Ensure equipment is loaded and batteries charged for next assignment.
• Perform mathematical calculations.
• Read and understand plans and specifications.
• Adhere to safety policies and PPE usage.
• Provide positive client/public relations in the field.
• Complete assigned tasks and assist others as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
