Job description

Vecna Robotics seeks a Senior Field Service Technician. This customer-facing role is responsible for delivering advanced technical support and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction at deployment sites. The Senior Field Service Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and supporting our cutting-edge robotics and automation systems.

The Senior Field Service Technician role is 75-95% travel. While this is a remote role, the Senior Field Service Technician will be expected to travel to customer sites and our Waltham, MA office – often on short notice.

The Senior Field Service Technician will perform complex service, maintenance, and repair activities in the field, ensuring maximum uptime and optimal performance. This role will also provide on-site training, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, electrical, and networking issues, and work hands-on with mechanical and electrical tools.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, thrives in fast-paced environments, and brings a proactive, continuous learning mindset to every challenge.

Reporting to the Field Service Manager, the Senior Field Service Technician is a fulltime, salaried role with benefits. Candidates must be based in or near Louisville, KY; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; Indianapolis, IN; or Cincinnati, OH.

In this role, the Senior Field Service Technician will:

  • Perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for robotics and automation systems at customer locations.
  • Deliver in-depth training and coaching for customers and partners on troubleshooting, maintenance, and system operation.
  • Provide on-site support for hardware, software, electrical, and networking issues, ensuring efficient resolution of complex technical challenges.
  • Proficiently use mechanical and electrical tools, such as voltage meters, oscilloscopes, torque wrenches, and assembly equipment, ensuring safety and reliability during operations.
  • Replace and calibrate robotic components via specialized software and proprietary platforms.
  • Manage robot uptime and key performance metrics, including repair time and cost.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, repair practices, and work instructions.
  • Assist with configuration adjustments and modifications to existing customer sites as needed.
  • Travel extensively (throughout North America), with all related expenses covered.

What we are looking for:

  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in industrial robotics, automation, or related fields, with deep expertise in robotics systems.
  • Proven proficiency in Linux systems and familiarity with mechanical and software-based diagnostic tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a track record of resolving complex issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality service and solutions.
  • Ability to:
    • thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high-pressure environment.
    • obtain or hold a valid driver’s license.
    • lift > 25 lbs and spend most of the day on your feet if necessary.
