Job summary

Waymo in the United States is seeking an experienced Hardware Quality Engineer to champion field quality initiatives across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations with a hybrid work schedule.

The role requires a bachelor in Engineering, 8+ years in electro-mechanical product development, and proficiency with Python, SQL, JMP or Tableau; knowledge of 8D, DMAIC, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and DOE; strong cross-functional leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 8+ years of electro-mechanical product development experience.
• Experience in a quality, reliability, or similar engineering role.
• Experience in data analysis, reporting, and dashboard creation using Python, SQL, JMP, or Tableau.
• Strong knowledge and application of core quality and reliability methodologies and tools (e.g., 8D DMAIC, Kepner-Tregoe, FMEA, MSA, SPC, DOE).
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Champion field quality initiatives with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Software, and Operations teams.
• Analyze fleet data to identify emerging quality trends and systemic risks.
• Lead cross-functional root cause analysis, containment, and resolution for complex field issues.
• Develop scalable field quality processes, tools, and automation to identify, triage, and mitigate field failures.
• Define quality coverage requirements and validate corrective actions in the field.
• Establish a structured feedback system to improve designs, diagnostics, and operational playbooks.
