Job summary

City of Minneapolis Public Works Department seeks a technically skilled engineer/technician to provide high-level support for Surface Water and Sewers. You will inspect assets, coordinate with engineers, and ensure proper construction techniques during sewer projects in the field.

Responsibilities include data analysis, CAD drafting, cost estimation, and contract administration while performing on-site field duties and documentation in collaboration with city staff and contractors.

Qualifications

• Eighteen (18) months of post High School training in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent training in Civil Engineering.
• Three (3) years of related experience performing civil engineering and related technical work.
• Equivalency may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and investigations of tunnels, outfalls, maintenance holes, catch basins, and other sewer infrastructure to evaluate assets’ condition and performance.
• Communicate deviations discovered in plans, specifications, materials, methods, schedules, or MNDOT specifications to the Engineer.
• Inspect and ensure proper construction techniques for sanitary and storm sewer projects with various contractors and governmental agencies.
• Assist in preparation of paperwork describing sewer improvements needed within reconstruction and construction projects.
• Field verify, enter, and maintain records using software such as ArcMap/ArcGIS, Excel, etc.
• Analyze sewer asset data using ArcMap/ArcGIS, Excel, MS Access, and related tools.
• Act as the engineer's field representative for communication with construction crews on site.
• Perform contract administrative duties by tracking daily items (hours, progress, weather, quantities).
• Perform office engineering tasks including design review, cost estimation, and documentation.
• Draw standard plates and detailed CAD drawings.
• Perform mathematical calculations for engineering projects including arithmetic, trigonometry, and quantities.
• Assign work to lower level staff and provide training.
• Other duties as assigned.
