Job summary

City of Minneapolis Public Works Department seeks a specialized high level technical support and design support engineer/engineering technician for the Surface Water and Sewers Division. You will inspect assets, assist in field and office tasks, and coordinate with contractors on site.

The role requires post-secondary civil engineering tech training, 3 years of related civil engineering experience, CAD drafting skills, and strong data analysis using ArcGIS and Maximo.

Qualifications

• Eighteen (18) months of post High School training in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of related experience performing civil engineering and related technical work.
• Currently possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Equivalency of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspect tunnels, outfalls, maintenance holes, catch basins, and sewer infrastructure to evaluate assets’ condition and performance.
• Communicate deviations discovered in plans, specifications, materials, methods, schedules, or MN DOT specifications to the Engineer.
• Inspect and ensure proper construction techniques for sanitary and storm sewer projects with contractors and governmental agencies.
• Assist in preparation of paperwork describing sewer improvements needed within reconstruction and construction projects.
• Field verify, enter, and maintain records using software (e.g., Adobe, ArcMap, Maximo, Excel).
• Analyze sewer asset data using ArcMap/ArcGIS, Adobe PDF editor, Excel, Access, SharePoint, Maximo, and Granite XP CCTV Viewer.
• Act as the engineer's field representative for communication with the construction crew foremen on site.
• Perform contract administrative duties by tracking daily items (payroll hours, weather, quantities, etc.).
• Perform office engineering tech work: design, shop drawing review, cost estimation, and related communications.
• Draw standard plates and detail updates using CAD.
• Perform complex mathematical calculations related to project work and costs.
• Assign work to lower level staff and provide training.
• Other duties as assigned.
