Job summary

Peraton seeks a full-time experienced background investigator near San Diego, CA. Applicants must reside within 50 miles of San Diego city center and travel locally for in-person investigations to determine employment suitability for access to sensitive information.

The role requires completing interviews, records searches, and detailed reporting in government systems, while maintaining confidentiality and integrity. Home office setup and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain TS clearance; T5 adjudication preferred.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Minimum High School diploma.
• 1 year federal background investigative experience in last 5 years.
• 3 years general investigative experience and completion of New Investigator training.
• Valid driver's license and personal vehicle; local travel required.
• Home office setup; reside within the stated mileage requirement.
• Temporary duty assignments 14–30 days several times per year.

Responsibilities

• Travel daily for in-person background investigations to assess employment suitability.
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers and others.
• Perform records searches at police, courts, schools, financial and medical facilities.
• Type and report information in a government system with clarity.
• Work independently within a team and with a Field Manager.
• Maintain confidentiality, ethics and integrity; professional attire required.
• Meet attendance/punctuality expectations; handle long reports and field work.
