Job summary

MCNC is seeking a Field Technician3 to cover Charlotte and Western North Carolina, locating MCNC buried fiber optics and related utilities. The role requires reading utility maps, marking sites, and ensuring proper bonding and safety protocols.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in fiber optic locating, training completion, and experience with NC811 systems. In this role you may act as a floating resource across the state, supporting senior locators as needed.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of fiber optic locating experience.
• 2+ years of fiber optic construction/repair preferred.
• Strong experience with NC811 system and ticketing software.
• High School Diploma or GED; professional training considered in lieu of diploma.

Responsibilities

• Locate MCNC buried fiber optics using specialized equipment within accuracy limits.
• Mark locations, document, and photograph each locate.
• Ensure grounds are bonded to ground rod before leaving a locate.
• Respond to excavation notices during and after hours.
• Communicate with excavators and utility reps about underground facilities.
• Support senior locators and assist in difficult locate jobs as needed.
