We are seeking an experienced Senior FHIR Data Modeler to support the design, development, and implementation of healthcare interoperability solutions.

This role is ideal for a healthcare data professional with deep expertise in FHIR, HL7 standards, and clinical data integration. You will play a key role in translating complex healthcare data into standardized, interoperable formats, with a particular focus on HL7 v2-to-FHIR mapping.

Working closely with data architects, implementation teams, external partners, and vendors, you will help improve data standards, simplify integration processes, and enable the seamless exchange of healthcare information.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a client-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement healthcare data modeling solutions using FHIR and HL7 standards.
• Perform data mapping, transformation, and validation to ensure accurate and compliant healthcare data exchange.
• Translate HL7 v2 messages into FHIR resources, including ADT, ORM, ORU, and RDE message types.
• Apply an understanding of asynchronous information exchange and healthcare integration patterns.
• Develop and maintain FHIR profiles and implementation guides.
• Ensure data models and integration solutions comply with established healthcare interoperability standards.
• Collaborate with data architects, implementation teams, and technical stakeholders to define and implement data architecture requirements.
• Work directly with external partners and vendors to support FHIR interface integration and interoperability.
• Participate in architecture discussions, document technical decisions, and communicate requirements and challenges to stakeholders.
• Identify and proactively resolve technical issues to minimize project delivery risks.
• Stay current with FHIR R4/R5 developments and emerging healthcare interoperability standards, recommending improvements and best practices.

Project Delivery & Accountability

• Work independently to manage assigned deliverables and meet project deadlines.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Track and report project hours and activities in accordance with established project management processes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable privacy, security, and confidentiality requirements.

Required Qualifications

Healthcare Interoperability Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Architect, or Data Modeler within the North American healthcare sector.
• Extensive hands-on experience with FHIR specifications, infrastructure, and healthcare interoperability.
• Strong proficiency in HL7 standards, particularly HL7 v2 and HL7 v3.
• Demonstrated experience mapping and transforming HL7 v2 messages into FHIR resources.
• Experience with healthcare integration architecture, including REST APIs and FHIR-based interoperability solutions.
• Knowledge of FHIR implementation guides, profiles, and healthcare data standards.

Technical Skills

• Experience with Spring, REST, SQL, JSON, and Git.
• Understanding of healthcare interface messaging, including ADT, ORM, ORU, and RDE.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare data mapping, transformation, and validation.
• Ability to interpret complex technical requirements and translate them into practical integration solutions.

Professional Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with technical teams, external partners, and clients.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, identify challenges, and proactively develop solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline; HL7 FHIR certification; or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with additional healthcare standards, including C-CDA, CCD, EDI X12, and CQL.
• Knowledge of clinical terminology standards such as ICD, SNOMED CT, CPT, and LOINC.
• Experience with patient identity resolution, clinical data normalization, or healthcare data ingestion.
• 2+ years of software development experience, preferably with Java 11 or later.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, or other message queue systems.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure.
