Job summary

Verizon is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead complex network solutions, drive automation, and mentor teams across engineering and operations. The role requires guiding cross-functional groups, planning projects, and delivering high-impact initiatives on a hybrid work model.

You will design and maintain enterprise networks, SDN/NFV, and security measures while collaborating with agencies and vendors to implement best practices and ensure service reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or four+ years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Ability to ascertain a GSA Public Trust certificate and any other applicable security clearances required by the agency.
• Cisco Network Certifications or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Mentor team members on networking, design, engineering and automation; act as final escalation for production issues with other teams.
• Lead performance meetings with the agency and maintenance teams; create detailed project plans.
• Provide input on status calls with multiple organizations.
• Complete projects independently within tight timelines without impacting critical services.
• Build strong working relationships across departments and vendors to develop best practices for engineering and operations.
• Provide day-to-day sustaining engineering support for the customer enterprise network.
• Design and implement LAN, WAN, intranets, SDN and NFV networks.
• Perform network modeling, analysis, planning; design security measures.
• Support installation of new services and features, and manage changes per change management.
• Support VoIP, SIP services and PSTN voice integration.
• Validate network and application operations after changes.
• Execute design-impacting changes; review and approve configurations.
• Execute fallback/contingency plans for restoration and disaster drills.
• Monitor success indicators after changes.
• Update network design documentation post-implementation.
• Work with enterprise teams to develop strategic and enterprise plans.
